A Compilation of December Emails...in other words, Spencer's mother is lame and got behind!

Dec 3, 2012
The streets of Mocorro
So, here i am ether suuuppperr  hungry or suuupppeerr  full!
theres really not an in between haha. every meal at  lunch the
members, whether awesome food or not the greatest, make so much so we
eat with force. and without fail i always feel obliged to have
seconds. this is how it goes usually, sometimes i cant talk with them
a whole lot because ive only been speaking portuguese for 3 months and
i dont understand absolutely everything so its great i just get to eat
my food without too much conversation. Elder Gomes loves to talk so he's
always talking at the dinner table. so i wind up eating my food always
faster than everyone else because im not busy talking and then here
comes the demand with out fail everytime, ELDER COME MAIS! haha and
since im a taylor what do i do? yup, eat more. but i love it. the
bishop took us to a chohascoria this week, the all you can eat meat
places, and i dont think ive ever had as big of a desire to munch on
just meat in my whole life. i ate soo much it was awesome! the bishop
and the family couldnt believe i could eat that much!  they were getting
a kick out of watching me eat and everytime the people came around
with meat it was an automatic, sim por favor. so i ate so much until
my jaw was tired of chewing haha too funny, even better i woke up the
next day and my jaw muscles literally were hurting when i would chew.
too good.

i saw my first person with the potó burn. remember that ant thing that
pees acid on you? ya it was gnarly.

one thing here i find super funny still is that people call all the
women, women. like theyll say hey women! or women do this! because in
portuguese you cant say like, can you make me a sandwhich? the
question here is make me a sandwhich? so its super funny. mulher is
women in portuguese and its right to call people like women or boy or
man in the command form. Mim faz um sandwhich, Mulher! haha make me a
sandwhich women! its too great ill have to forget about this structure
when i return back home if i dont wanna get slapped.

Elder Taylor and Elder Gomes
so i was just thinking this week about how much i love the temple and
really miss going through the temple. i realized how special it is and
how i really took advantage of all the opportunities of going to the
temple. it is such a specal place, and with the absence of the temple
right now i realize even more how truly special and sacred it is. we
have a temple so close to our house. i always knew this was a blessing
but never really realized this until now. the people in my area have
to travel 2 days by bus just to make it to the temple, and then 2 day
journey back home. just becuse they know the importance of the temple
they do it. such strong examples to me. i was just thinking how good
we have it having a temple less than 30 minutes away from our house
when we can drive in our nice comfy cars with AC and enjoy the view on
the way there and everything. what a blessing that is for us. i just
really encourage all of you to take advantage of this blessing. go to
the temple as often as you can, and when you go realize just how lucky
we have it and be that much more thankful to the Lord for him allowing
us to have His house so close.

Dec. 14, 2001

so you aksed me about my teaching pool this week, i figured theres not a better way to tell you all about it and fill you in than taking pictures with everyone and sending them to you. this week i pretty much taught animals on the street i found. ahh its a whole different world here as you can tell! i love it!! i hope you enjoy the pictures of my investigators. but really weve got a solid pool right now its great.

THE HORSE...

THE DONKEY...

THE GOATS...
THE KITTEN...

AND THE STRAY DOG!
youll like this. so this week we were teaching and just this huge cock roach was on the wall of this ladies house. haha she sees it and just doesnt do anythings, i think she was too lazy to get up and smash it or something. so we just keep on continuing the lesson. then i was talking, she just casually slipped off her shoe and grabed it in her hand, i didnt think anything of it. then all the sudden she smacks the wall with her shoe and the cock roach just drops half dead on the floor and the lady acts like nothing happend haha what?! ah it was the greatest. i sent you a picture of a cockroach in the house i found under my backpack. i dont know if you can tell how big it is but the thing was freaking huge. had to take a picture. this week i had a little chorrascoria of my own, made a ghetto little grill BBQ in the back and then roasted some good old chicken hearts on it. ah it was so good.

BBQ'd Chicken Hearts

The ghetto BBQ
Dino- The winner of the piggy back ride contest

also a picture with a kid giving me a piggyback is the champion for who could give me the piggy back for the longest way out of the kids here. hes 17 and helps a ton with the missionaries its great. they all love that i weigh a lot (at least of here)

The cockroach found under his backpack...
i hope it feels like chirstmas time for you guys because it sure doesnt down here! haha one thing for sure is that the people down here have never heard the song, 'dreaming of a white christmas' or whatever its called. haha they think its cold enough to snow when its 100 outside. so great. so far we had one day that was somewhat overcast, and gosh it was great! im lucky though because i dont sweat to much, never really have, but like elder gomes and other people are just like walking sweat balls.

so a cool little story for my favorite people back home.. so as you know the people are on their big temple trip right now down to the recife temple. which ya like i talked about last week is a huge sacrifice for them. Dino, (the same kid i sent a picture with a piggy back) is a recent convert of like 2 months. he wanted to go to the temple so bad. so hes been working and selling some stuff trying to get enough money to pay for the tempe trip. hes been saving up money and everything was going well! this week i was buying some grosseries, and was gonna buy a pen drive to put some stuff on. i got a feeling just to not buy the pen drive or some of the more deserty type of food and just to keep my money. i didnt think anything of it i just figured it was less work to have to walk around and buy the stuff anyways. so i didnt buy that stuff and saved my money to spend for next week. Dino, the hour before they left for the temple, came looking for us to talk to us in a rush. we luckly ran into him and he said that the person he worked for couldnt pay him until the next week and this leaving that he couldnt go to the temple because he didnt have enough money to pay for the passage. he didnt know what to do, nobody had the money to lend to him until he got payed. but what do you know, the exact amount of money i budgeted and saved was the exact amount of money that he needed to pay for the passage. so i gladly lent him the money because the temple is was more important that anything i needed at the time. so the people just got back. Dino absolutely loved the temple, and the coolest part of all was that he got to baptise his dad who had passed away a couple years ago and needless to say had an awesome experience with that. how happy i am to have been an instument to getting him to the temple. the Lord will always bless us and help us out if we give it our all.

love you all a bunch, until monday!
love your animal teaching Elder

"Hey... save me a piece of that corn!"
Dec. 18, 2012
only 2 ish days after my last email so i have to say im sorry if its boring because not a whole lot happened in the past two days. my teaching pool of animals almost all fell through, such a bust but hey everywhere you look theres a new animal waiting to be preached to and hear the wonderful gospel. haha thats a little half metaphor for you guys.

i have a conference tomorrow so i possibly will recieve packages and stuff which would be great. i cant believe its seriously almost chirstmas time! doesnt feel like it at all. but, feliz natal nevertheless. haha whats worse than actually being home and listening to music blasting in our house is music here translated into portuguese about christmas and snow and stuff. they shouldnt be allowed to talk about cold here!  tell trav and jen and baby ford i love them.  and speaking of conference, we get to play basketball and wait for it... PING PONG too!! haha you better believe ill be living on that table. ive been dying for some type of competiveness lately so this will be great.

so a cool little addition to the story with dino. they returned from the temple and everything and he was just lighted up because of how awesome it was. it was so fun to see him so happy and stoked about how awesome the temple is. so like i said, he baptised his dad who passed away. he said as soon as he went into the bathroom to change out of the baptismal clothes, he just broke down and started crying a bunch because he had just the biggest feeling of that his dad was super happy and close to him. so for sure i think that was a manifestation that his dad excepted the baptism. truly a wonderful ordinance, doing temple work for our ancestors. its our big resposabilitly to do this too, just imagine the joy of the people who have passed that are waiting for this ordenance, like dino's dad, to be performed for them so they can injoy the blessings of the gospel.

a general conference talk yesterday i listened to was so great. you all can listen to it and enjoy the wonderful message as this wonderful time of christmas is coming. it was the 4th session of the october 3rd 2010 conference, and the talk by President Monson on gratitude.

sorry for the short email today! i hope all is well still. so only like one more week till i get to talk to my favorite people! im so stoked. so some wonderfull things worked out and i think youll be a little happy to here of who gets to skype you guys!!!!  this elder!!! i cant wait.
eu amo voces mais que sabem,

A week of "firsts"

Hello! haha! the pictures of thanksgiving absolutely cracked me up. freaking pheobe! our little turkey.

Yes i bought a hamock for only 23 hais which is like 12 bucks.. not to bad and i love it! keeps me away from the  bugs and what not! so cool about matt going to the temple and sui and nancy im excited to hear about them! and i have to take a taxi into the city to get internet to email. im just in a little internet computer place in the city

so i forgot my planner at the house, everyweek i make a little note of something ill tell you but i forgot it so sorry! but this week was good! everyweek flies by its weird but this week we had to try to visit ever inactive member and it was a a tonnn of walking! haha Our area is huge! but my body is holding up great.  so nothing too exciting happened this week because we just were trying to get people back to church or trying to see there situation.

my portuguese is getting better and better everyday. the people here at first were soo hard to understand because they talk funny. haha they just say stuff funny and even to me who doesnt speak portuguese sounds funny! all the people south make fun of them. its like west virgina or some other funny state with thick accents. but every day i understand more and more and its awesome i love it.

this week was a lot of firsts here.. so i officially have a gnarly farmers tan and its already gross, cant wait to see it in 2 years haha. it just looks like a wetsuit tan line ya know? so another first, i saw my first big spider. i was helping someone move and i was carying this box that was full of tiles so it was heavy and fragile. all of a sudden a freaking huuuggee spider ran around from the bottom of the box and on the top! this thing was soo big. and i couldnt just drop the box because everything would have broken. so finally i get the box to the ground and the spider took off. nobody wanted to smash it because it woulda just gotten all over their shoes and stuff. too funny.

Every house here basically if its not in the favela has an electric fence on top of the wall securing the house so nobody can hop the fence. ive been soo tempted since the first time i saw one to touch it but figured that would be a dumb idea, and it is still a dumb idea. haha but it finally wore on me and i touched it and got zapped! almost became a real brazilian missionary (you're not a real missionary here until you accidently go "you know what" in your pants) but i almost became a real missionary not even because of the food haha. i dont think ill be touching any more electric fences.

Another first. had my first meal that was difficult to put down. the situation and everything was just ahh. haha eating lunch at a members house, with cats all over the house too. they made some chicken and then pulled out this dish out of the oven and it just smelt ransid! it was a pasta with fish kinda like sardines just literally smashed up into the pasta with like the juice and just straight raw nasty fish. gomez (his companion) wouldnt touch it but i figured hey why not try it. so with cats on the table that we were eating on and everything i tried the dish and gosh i was soo close to losing it! it was the nastiest thing ever and i barely ate anything else after because all i could smell was the fish. it was rough but worth it, right?

Elder Taylor rockin in the hammock!
oh so my hamock is wonderful by the way! first night i was sleeping in it i woke up with a gnarly pain in my stomach and was sweating and all that good stuff. haha i thought i was gonna die for a little bit, not really but i wasnt feeling good! and after about 3 hours of this during the night finally my body was getting ready to get rid of what was making my stomach hurt. i wasnt quite sure what end it was gonna come out but finally it came out and then for the next couple hours that was my situation in the bathroom. all in time for the alarm to go off in the morning. with some good prayers and pepto bismal i felt awesome but just had no energy for the day and i was fine. thats another first too, my first sick time of brazil.

a funny little story, i was walking behing this little cement soccer field and a ball came rolling by. so naturally i ran after the ball and grabed it and i just threw it all the way to the field. haha it was kinda an awkward silence and i was like what did i do. they thought it was the weirdest thing that instead of kicking the ball i threw it. it was too funny and they didnt know how to throw the ball far at all so they were amazed, when in the US it wouldnt have been anything special. we were walking by the field again later and the people had me throw the ball again to show their friends who didnt see it the first time. brasileitos are too funny.

so aside from all the awesome firsts, my testimony of the power of the scriptures have grown so much its unreal. every morning i am so excited to just learn more and read more about this perfect gospel. i just want to know everything and its really so fun. i have said this many times but i never thought that i would like reading and have such a desire to learn about something as i do now and for the rest of my life. its amazing. 2 nefi capitulo 32 versiculos 3-5 talking about feasting upon the words of Christ. how we have all the answers to any questions right in front of us. what a blessing to have the bible and then on top of that the book of mormon which contains the fulness of the the gospel of Jesus Cristo. we have all these words that Heavenly Father gave to us and all we have to do is read, study, ponder, and apply and our lives just become instantly better. i heard this saying i really like, if you want to talk to God, Pray. if you want God to talk to you, read the scriptures. so true i know that answers to prayers and direction to life can be found in the book of mormon. it can help us no matter our situation.

im excited to read your emails that i took pictures of (he doesn't have enough time to email us and the Mission President and read ours so he takes pictures of it with his camera then reads it later!), i love you all a ton and am so thankful for your examples,
love

"What a week it's been in Mossoro..."

So yes it is freakin hot here! its like the river during the summer. everyday i tell myself "oh i cant wait to go jump in the river and cool off!!"  then i just go jump in the cold shower and pretend im in the river. haha im having the time of my life, just in a little different way.

wanna hear something kinda cool?! I HAD MY FIRST BAPTISM this sunday!! ahhh so freaking cool! so fun it made all the hard work in the CTM pay off even though i didnt find the person i baptised. we have a couple more with baptism dates, with people that i have actually found so i cant wait till that happens. i love and hate the language so much haha. its the most frustrating thing ever not being able to be ME right now, (well atleast say some of the stuff i want without sounding dumb) i cant express myself perfectly yet and its rough! someone spoke english the other day and i was so stoked to finally talk in english for once but the language really is coming along super good. i get compliments all the time that people say how good my portuguese is for learning for just 2 months. i know that it is truly a blessing with the gift of tounges i have such a strong testimony of that. all because i tried my hardest, and just like as promised, Heavenly Father will make up the rest.  when im teaching a lesson or something on the spiritual side of things my portuguese is even better. it really is amazing how much the hand of our Heavenly Father helps us missionaries, and other poeple too! He helps everyone, wether they realize it our not. thats the beauty of this gospel.

so yea my comp just had his 26th birthday sunday! weird to think that he is older that morgan but he is a great elder. i will learn a whole lot from him. so stoked.

im finally getting my tan back too! gosh it feels so good. i use sun screen though cause literally it is just too much sun to handle right now without it. im lucky i dont sweat that much, i never really have. haha poor elder gomez is always sweating and im dry. i will take the words of bro koeliker, haha i can for sure see how a person could get gnarly crotch rot. and like you said, i have enough rash issues as it is.

i take 3 showers a day. and i still feel like thats not enough. lunch is the big meal of the day. the members no how to feed you even though they dont have that much money or anything but they are soo giving. so cool the people here are really great. so after lunch we have to go back home and rest for a little over an hour in our house (a mission rule for our area) because its physically draining on us with the heat. so i just go study or read or be a nerd or something and its good. i dont have any complaints about it here. my house is not the greatest but like i think i said last week. im not here in brazil to have a 5 star house haha.

the roads and stuff here if they're not dirt are cobble stone. cars are super expensive here so not too many people have cars. youll be able to see it in the pictures. im in one of the more poor areas of mossoro but its great. i will not be getting fat while im here thats for sure. so the sun rises at 5 and sets at 5 too. its crazy. like really its day time at 5 and night time at 5 its the weirdest thing but once the sun goes down life is good. life really is good! missionary work will be so hard but soo beyond rewarding. just in this first week or so here ive grown a ton and i can not wait to keep growing in every aspect, haha yes even height so watchout dad and luke theres gonna be a new short person in the family and its not gonna be me.

heres a story youll enjoy about getting a new investigator.. so me and the comp were just walking down the road and some lady comes running after us and goes, hey so my daughter really really wants to talk to you guys! we were like oh sweet!  whatup baptism! (people here are straight up with you its great, theyre not afraid to say anything) then she points to me and goes, "elder shes seen you walking around here and really wants to talk to you." haha i was like whaaat?. the mom was like "ya she really wants to talk to an american she was too nervous to come talk to you."   haha talk about an easy investigator right?! but she's on the investigator list now. we went and talked to her (shes like 17) and she just wanted to talk to me and i told her the only way i'd speak was if i could share a message with here so there was a nice window for the first lesson right there. it was a great lesson.

so everyday i get more and more thankful for the blessings i have in my life. dad i cant thank you enough for everything and mom you too. so we were eating at a members house who lives in a favella (ghetto, slums). literally houses and everything are made out of sticks and mud like little houses or something we would make at lake powell for fun. its crazy. just a whole different world. but the fam just makes this hugeee meal and it just blew my mind how much they were willing to give to feed the elders, to go above and beyond what they had. people here are willing to go without eating just to feed us it really just breaks my heart. i may not be able to provide them with physical money or things, but what i can provide them with is spiritual blessings which are way more importnat and meaningfull. i love sharing my testimony with the poeple here and love having them grow closer to our Heavenly Father.

my time is running out im gonna send some pics but i love you all a ton! i feel your prayers.
Love Elder Taylor

Means of transportation? Its like he is right out of the movie "Nacho Libre!"

Elder Taylor's first apartment

Elder Taylor's first baptism!

Arrival in Mossoro Brazil!

Tudo Bem!

well look whos finally in the real mission field! i am serving in the state of Natal and more specifically Mossoro! its like one of the most north missions in the joao pessoa mission. more north means more hot! haha it literally feels like the river in the summer. its the exact same just take away any air conditioning but hey thats good for me. i dont know where to start sorry, haha so i left two days ago from the ctm. which was so great we had such a good time there. i was so sad to leave my district we all grew so close and i really will have some life long friends from that. so stoked with the ctm experience, it really is what you make it and i had a blast in there and learned a ton.

so my plane ride was about 4 hours to joao pessoa, it was a great time haha the plane was on the smaller side so everything was super squished but it was great. after my plane ride pres and sister hall as well as some zl´s met us at the air port. okay pres and sis hall are absolutely awesome! they are soo nice and so great. i hope i get to build a good relationship with them. so after that we took a nice hour ish drive to the mission home. what a nice area that is in! all the elders here are so great, its a little frustrationg not being able to rip portuguese with them but i know it will come. patience is key here! so we had a wonderfull dinner at their apartment and it was soo good, had a rad testimony meeting and then we all hit the sack at a different apartment. haha probably 14 elders all sleeping in a tiny room with no ac or fans. it wasnt the best night sleep ever but i servived.
i got to see my friend elder Chauncy here too which was soo fun! he~s already had serveral baptisms and is doing absolutely awesome. so fun to get to talk to him. the next morning we left at like 5-30 and headed to the beautiful hot place of mossoro. after 10 hours on a 2 differnt bus´s, we arived in the city. then the 1st counseler came and picked us up and took us to our apartment.

haha next week ill try to send pictures home. not exactly a 5 star place but thats not what im here for right? youll enjoy the pictures. i wont spend too much time in it anyways. but neverthe less i am stoked! dad youd be proud of me, my comp was saying how the shower is aweful and its broken. i was like oh it cant be that bad. haha it litterally was coming out of the wall drip by drip.. so i used my fixing skills and took apart the thing and got it working again.. good as new! he was stoked because for ever hes been showering with the drops of water coming out, cold drops of water might i add. haha no hot water but itll help me man up a little bit.  We freakin have a mango tree in the backyard, haha looks like ill be having the runs for two years straight with all the mango i will eat. i will have much more about everything and whats it like next week so i might have to leave you hanging on some questions you have but haha hey i dont even know yet.

its just me and my trainor here.  my trainor is great and am so excited to learn from him. he is turning 26 this sunday, so hes a little older but i figure thats when the most studly missionaries go out huh dad? haha but really he is an awesome person. i will kill him once my training is over with. for you non lds people that doesnt mean literally kill him, but he will finish his mission after the 12 weeks i serve with him. cant wait to pick his brain about the gospel, portuguese, the people, everything! missionary work will be one of the hardest things ive done in my life no doubt, but not even a question as to if its worth it or not. i cant wait to find someone and baptise them and bring them into this church. to watch their lives change in a whole different direction for the better, seeing the hand of the Lord truly touch their lives.

i dont know a whole lot about the whole city or anything. todays really my first day out in the field. just finished with a zone meeting which was way rad and now i get email, lunch at a members house then its off to the races. ill be teacher a couple pesquisadors later on today, and will do some proselyting. a little nervous but thats figured, ive only been speaking potuguese for 9 weeks. but i know i just need to replace any fear i have with faith, because fear is the opposite of faith and one of the most important things we can all have is faith in Jesus Cristo and our Heavenly Father. i dont have a whole lot of time so im sorry about any details i missed. usually pday is on monday im pretty sure,  so you can expect emails then. i get mail like once a month ish out here so ill be looking forward to when i get those letters. ive felt your prayers touch my life and i have to thank you so much for them, they really help me out because i know i cant do this work alone. i know without the hand of our Heavenly Father that i wouldnt be able to be doing the things i am doing here. i know without the dom do espirito santo, my words and all words of the missionaries wouldnt peirce the peoples hearts. i am so excited to grow closer to my Heavenly Father every day, to study, to learn, to feel the joy, the hard work, and all the other awesome things i will experience on the mish. these next few weeks especially will be hard but thats where i will grow the most. an aweomse thing my ctm instructer said was, anytime we have a hard challenge or struggle, push through it with faith, just smile and know that a blessing way more rewarding than the challenge is right around the corner. i know that Heavenly Father blessed our lives more than we know, i really do know that and see it happen every day. he loves us so much and if we put in the effort,  he will take care of everything else.

love you all a ton,
Elder Taylor <3

Good-bye CTM!

Crazy to say but its finally here! i am outa here! i am so stoked to go into the real world and bring people this amazing gospel and bring the light into their eyes. that they will be able to be happy, no matter what the situation is in the world. i've been lucky enough to grow up with this knowledge in my life now its my time to help others have what I am so happy to have.
so i gotta start out by throwing a HUGE shout out to you Máe! you hooked it up with the tapatio, the sweet and sour sauce and all that other amazing stuff in the package with Elder Shields.. i cannot tell you how stoked i was, especially to find out that they dont have Sweet and Sour sauce here it brazil!! the one reason i could never live here. so funny how i wrote about it earlier, than later that day i got some from you. i was so stoked. one of the sauces popped and was all in the bag so what did i do?! haha yup, i was licking the bag. pretty gross, but hey ive had some crazy withdrawls from not having my share of S&S sauce and it was a wonderfull reunion to finally have some again. my Braseleito didnt know what the sauce was, and since i was freaking out about it he wanted to try it so i had him lick some as well and he thought it was so gross he ran and brushed his teeth. they just dont respect the s&s sauce, atleast plain that it. and tapatio... ive had so many consecutive meals since week where ive left the cafateria sweating because i put so much on it. i've let two people touch my tapatio but people cant even look at my s&s sauce, i need to be more like Cristo and share i guess, but hey im trying. and jump rope too, its been so awesome to have. to finally get such a good workout. youre the best. and Pai youre right, mom does spoil me way to much. but ill take it! im one lucky son.

at 4 today i get a pizza party as well as a couple other kids so we are gonna munch so hard! ill need it because i hear you get so skiny up north. but luke that doesnt mean youll be bigger than me. love you so much bud keep up the amazing work. keep growing and making all my friends feel short. haha im excited i have two years till i have to worry about coming home to be embarrassed by how much taller and more studly you are than me!!
so the language is coming along wonderul thanks to the girft of tounges i know that with it is the only way i am speaking the way i am right now. what an amazing belssing and gift that is. guess what we got to do this week.. go PROSELITING! (no clue how to spell that in english sorry my minds blanked)  but how awesome?! we got to go out of the boundaries around the CTM and pass out Livros de Mormon! it was the coolest thing ever! dont get me wrong, at first i was so nervous thinking holy cow i have to go talk to people in a language ive been learning for one month but knew that if i had faith, just like in all the million scriprtures about faith, that all this are possible and then i was so pumped. me and my comp said i prayer then went out and the portuguese flew! a true testiment to the gift of tounges. later that night trying to talk to my teachers i couldnt talk as good as i could when i was out in the streets. thats what im so excited to feel as well once im out in the field. i know it will be super hard, but nevertheless so worth it! we wound up handing out several book of mormons and talking to so many people and actually being able to communicate. even busted out my manderin "wo sure shun di hidza" excuse my spelling morgan. haha there was someone from tiwain who barely spoke portuguese i told him i could speak manderin and he lit up! haha just say my nehow and then let the i am a child of God rip. he thought it was funny but it was great, you could say that was by the gift of tounges as well haha.
next time i write ill be in some part of nothern Brazil. cannot wait!  one more fun fact about Joao Pessoa is there are gnarly bugs up there. haha this one you will love mom.. get this, theres a bug thats a little bigger than an ant called a Poró. this thing doesnt sting you but take a wild guess what it does! haha the thing pees on you! and to top it all off guess what the pee does.. gives you second degree burns from its trail of urin where ever it walks!! haha from pee! how funny is that. ahh i cant wait.
isto igreja é verdedeiro. Pai, eu estou indo para fazer muito bom journal entries como voce disse.
this church is so true. i could very well have taught severl families by the time you get my next email. i can not wait. read pray and keep the commandments everyday with exactness, we will feel the love of God and see him bless out lives. i love you all so much, off to Blythe baby!!

New Address to Send Letters to ( Hint! Hint!)

Glad to hear you like my surprise letter! haha thought you would enjoy that. absolutely loved the email I got today! I'm so lucky to have you guys as my family. Like I said in my letter, I can't thank you guys enough. I see every day how lucky I am and I will only see more of it as I go out into the field. I'll tell you more about some stuff I learned about Joao Pessoa in a little. Love you guys so much and the support I have is just unreal so I appreciate it so much.

So i cant believe ive been here for like 8 weeks!! so crazy. i feel old and like i was born here, some new elder the other day asked if i was 24 haha crazy, must be the new scar i have over my eye. im excited to go out into the field and feel like a baby again.  every day is kinda on repeat so i do apologize for the boring letters. lets see what i did this week.. haha well i learned more portuguese, i read and studied all types of the gospel, i ate a bunch of food, i went to the bathroom, and i slept. oh and then i did it all over again! haha but i absolutely love it in here. Itl'll be bitter sweet to leave, im so excited though to go actually teach real people and be able to see that happiness and receive that joy from that. ahh so awesome.

Because i leave in two weeks, i have a new adress people should send letters too. and i know if you really love me, like i know you all do, youll send me a nice letter. Dont be shy, especially if you dont know what to say, just say what your heart tells you haha.  the endereço is

Dallan, i mean Elder Sheilds is here and safe! make sure you tell theyre family. every wednesday we get a new group of missionaries and they have to go to some meetings in this one room so today i went in there and popped my head in and checked up on him. i will for sure be catching up with him tonight. he looked so happy and truly looks like a studly missionary! hes gonna do so great, so fun to see him here.

The weather is still about the same. Pretty hot but not like joao pessoa! its been raining every once in a while which is so great.
Guess who is getting mcdonalds later today!! this elder is! im having my teacher go and get me some. its gonna be unreal so all my fellow mcdonalds amigos out there i thought youd be happy for me. not sure if they have sweet and sour sauce though so that will be a huge downer if they dont but i guess ill live. id take sweet & sour sauce over water right now!

So about the Joao Pessoa! irmao Israel served there and he tells us stories all the time about it. so fun to hear and gets me so pumped. so basically the city is super wealthy, and has one area in the city which is where the AP's (assistants to the President of the mission) are so i wont be there. other than that it is a very very poor place. which im so happy for because that means humble happy poeple who are waiting to hear the word. plus got the good old favelas (ghetto) and what not there to add some excitement. cant wait. all the time i spent making fun of ryan and parker for having cold showers most likely, well that bit me in the butt because ill have only cold showers there. i wont be able to skype home so sorry about that momma but we'll live right? the bugs there are BIG. he said its common to see barota's (cockroaches) bigger than your name plaque haha so next time your at the river and see one, think about that. the people there are so friendly. half of them dont have teeth i guess but haha theyre all the same in God's eyes right? so that is how i will see them. they have a different accent of portuguese, kinda "hick" portuguese so basically its like ill be in the brazilian Blythe...SCORE! ill be super tan which will be wonderfull cause i feel like im in utah with how white i am right now, but ill be getting so much sun that i will have a tie tan line no joke! gosh im gonna be lookin good with like 4 different tan lines. haha seriously just aboslutely nothing but awesome things said about it there. im so stoked and i know that is where i am supposed to be. up in Natál there are nice beach areas too so i will be getting a perfect both worlds.

Both my teachers here will be life long friends for sure. they are so special to me and just truly have touched me. So cool, the book of mormon has the answers to all questions of the soul and is truly just amazing. like joseph smith said, it is the most true book on the earth. i have gained such a stong testimony of the book of mormon now. every chapter is absolutely beautiful and if you feast in them you can apply something to your life. cant wait to bring this book to all the peoples lives i can in brazil. the people down here are so easy to love. they are some of the nicest and just good people ive ever met. i love them so much, cant wait to get out in the field and gain an even greater love, especially when i can understand everything theyre saying haha. i love portuguese so much, its a beautiful language and i never thought id say this but i am so stoked every morning waking up knowing that i get to go study more and learn more about portuguese and the gospel. haha im sorry mom ive turned into a nerd now, but an extremely happy nerd.  The church is so true, love it so much, so grateful for the blessings i have from being apart of it.

love you all so much, have an awesome week. i hope all of your wildest dreams come true,
 Elder Taylor

Cookies, Shake and more Mango!

Just another same old week here in the awesome ctm! life is so great. happy to hear dallans coming next week! so crazy! im excited to share my knowledge with him, he will kill it down here. so excited for him.

I got my first hair cut and its been so toasty down here i figured id just cut it off, for the first time in my life i got a buzz! okay i almost did but then realized i didn't want to scare people off. haha the guy did a super good job.

Cookies at Mr. Cheney's!
I'm basically in a food coma right now because of you mom. thanks so much for your package i munched so hard its awesome. i just have a sugar buzz going on from the cookies and the shake. so thank you so much! i think the lady will send you a picture of me with my stuff but I look super gross in it so be like Jesus and dont judge me please! and i am butt white too so no laughing! i havent seen the sun for 7 weeks! Even my teachers are making fun of me now because i was dark when I got in and now they mess with me because they know it bugs the heck out of me how I look like im a white utah ghost.

I still love the food. Ah we got more mango yesterday! it was unreal again! haha i promise ive gotten smarter, but even though i knew what would happen if i ate the same amount of mango as i did last week...I did it anyways. But was it worth it... without a doubt. If the mango in Joao Pessoa is as good as it is here, looks like ill be here 2 years with constant diharia! haha but hey itll be so worth it. That stuff is soo good.

So ive finally got a good story where i felt so dumb with mixing up the portuguese words. I was in the middle of a lesson and it was like a spiritual part teaching the investigator and I was saying the 1st vision off the top of my head. Then i made just a tiny mistake. i was at the the part where it says, i saw two person personages who's BRIGHTNESS and glory.. blah blah blah. So im feeling all good about this lesson, with reciting the 1st vision with ease and all of a sudden my investigator starts just dying trying to hold in this big laugh. i imediately knew what i said. So instead of saying brightness, i said  'dirtyness' haha oops! I said "suja" instead of "cuja". I promise i wont be making that mistake again haha

So conference was absolutely amazing!!! Every single talk was straight up related to me and missionary work. it makes me bummed because i know if i appriciated it every year as i did this time, i could have gotten so much more out of it always. Literally it was just music to my ears and im sure yours too every second. it went by way too fast. the spirit was so strong and it really just made my testimony of prophets so much stronger. how awesome is it that we have a living prophet here on the earth today to lead and guide our church, straight from God himself. we are the only church on the earth who has this special gift. Conference really made me feel linked to you guys back home. knowing we were listening at the same time (not sure if you guys watched it all on time)  I really felt your  love and all the talks on family just made me realize how absolutely lucky i am to have all you guys and support back home. My testimony has grown so much. this church is so true, so simple, so right, so powerful and brings so much true joy to our lives. the coolest thing about it is the more we try to live the gospel by following in the footstepts of Christ, which makes us much better people and so much happier, we are getting blessed more than we every will realize. How lucky are we! And Heavenly father wants every one of his children to have it. He loves everyone so much, and wants us to have this gospel which will bring happiness to our lives and eventually lead us back to him in heaven for the ultimate girt of eternal life. all this is found in the Book of Mormon which is amazing. One of the coolest things about the book of mormon is how just because i can testify of the truthfullness of it, you dont have to take my word for it. You can come to know this for yourselves as we are promised in Morono 10:3-5. I've never been so constantly happy in my life, as good as my life has always been. it just really shows how powerful this gospel of Jesus Christ is.
I love you all so much. Read the Book of Mormon everyday, whether it be just one chapter.
Love your favorite son! (yea morgan and luke im claiming favorite right now)
