So its been a great week...

so this week was so great. start off by saying yesterday was a perfect day for us. we had 2 baptisms. one of a girl with 16 years and she is great and loves the church. the other was samira, which we were so stoked to baptize her. weve been working a bunch with her and was so fun to have the privelage of baptising her. she was my first baptism of someone we found knocking doors so we really grew to love her, shes gonna be so solid.

Elder Cezar, 16 year girl, Samira and her son, and Elder Taylor
and at the baptism, we had 7 of our investigators there watching! it was just perfect so we were so stoked about that. i sent some pictures of that so you guys can see. truly they were so happy after and was so fun to see their big smiles and just purity. i was thinking how lucky we are to have the opportunity to be that was constantly thanks to the sacrament and repentance. its #1 to see the difference and true joy/happyness that the gospel brings into peoples lives. there is nothing that can beat that feeling, not even if my room here had AC.

and to finish off the day we had dinner at a recent converts house, the man we baptized 3 weeks ago (standing next to me in the picture, and hopefuly well baptize the rest of the fam there soon). his wife is a strong evangelic who at first wouldnt even talk to us but now she loves our company so we are making progress with her. but anyways, at dinner i ate another food i never thought id be eating. last week was pig intestine and this week was goat brain!! haha it was the nastiest looking thing ever, they literally cacked open the skull in front of us and said enjoy. haha its one of those times where i remember that i love brazil!

i wound up eating half of the brain and it wasnt terrible, cezar didnt put down one bite haha. but you can see the skull after i ate everything inside. and yes, i do feel so much smarter now.

and yes stoked about the lakers, better believe i rep the lakers socks here ever once and a while.

at church yesterday had a person that spoke english perfectly and it was the weirdest thing talking in english but i love english so much. and youl like this story. so during sacrament, i was sitting with samiras son whos 6 years old and some other investigators, and samira was on the other side of the chapel. anyways during the first talk, all the sudden Vitor (the son) just rips a fart super loud! and obviously everyone close to us heard it. the little genius plugs his nose real quick, stands up and points to me and says, QUE ISSO?! (meaning like are you serious?) haha gosh i didnt know what to do besides just start laughing! at this time about half the people are looking over at us and hes just standing there looking at me, with one hand plugging his nose. ah i had nothing to do but just laugh. what a freaking smart 6 year old right?! haha i love him hes hilarious. but yea i hope youll enjoy that story. hope i dont get a reputation for farting in sacrament.

but hey i love you all a ton and until next week!

Just lovin' life!!

Look who's still in Mossoro!

Happy Valentine' s Day from Mossoro
Look whos still here in mossoro with elder cezar! so stoked about this. i think after this ill be out of here, but im stoked i got atleast one more in here in this area. should be an awesome transfer.

so i just read an email of the mission and in July our mission will divide! dont know to many details yet but most likely it will be mission joao pessoa and mission natal. id be in the mission natal right now if it divided. but yea because of all the missionaries coming. so cool, and like you said, the day of our savior coming is knocking at the doors.

this week was way good! ill throw out some random recap of things that happened. so youll love this. take a wild guess of what i ate this week?! haha freaking pig intestines!! they call it bushada here and gosh i wish i had a picture of it. porbably the grossest thing ive ever seen. elder cezar had to leave the table because he was starting to gag haha. so it wasnt the worse thing ever  but i wont be asking for more bushada any time soon thats for sure.

"Love the fruit here!"
This is probably one of the cleanest bathrooms he has used since he got to Mossoro!
Elder Taylor and Elder Cezar, his companion.  (Editor not sure who is in the middle!)

My zone...
the pope resigned right?! me and elder cezar came to a conclusion that he must have read the book of mormon and prayed about it. so well be looking for his baptism date soon. i gave a talk in church on the spot. it turned out to be a great talk and i didnt have anything to look at or read, only my scriptures so the whole time was some solid eye contact with the crowd. the only problem was that there was 3 moms (some not the most atractive people ive ever seen) breastfeeding there babies. and they dont have any shame here so they just sit there with everything hanging out. so that was a moment when i was giving a talk where i was thinking , "Im definetly not in california right now"

this week has been raining. believe it our not! its been the best. not a million degrees haha so only 900,000 degrees. obviously we never thought itd rain here so we didnt have any unbrella or anything the first day. so we leave for lunch and after we eat, it just dumps. we were about 20 minutes from our house and 10 minutes from the chapel so we ran to the chapel but it was for no use, we were absolutely drenched to the bone. we didnt have time to change our clothes or anything so we just went back to work after we left our scriptures in the church. still raining and soaking wet we worked until it was time to go home. haha it was a good day though.

Streets of Mossoro

Some people we met on a ranch.

this week we met some great families knocking doors which was a blessing,so were excited to start teaching them and let the same thing that hapened to Samira happen to them too. Samira will get baptised next sunday and she will be so firm in the church were stoked about that. so fun to see the holy Ghost truly working in the person. its that moment where all the hunger, heat, sweat, tired moments seem like nothing. its so fun because really it just strengthens your testimony too which we can always use. i love having the opportunity to bare my testimony every day to people that i dont even know, but Heavenly Father knows them. one thing ive learned here that i had to change at first is that i dont get to choose who i bare testimony too. i dont know the situation and readiness of the person, only Heavenly Father. so now i love baring to everyone we teach and just let the Holy Ghost do His job if the person is ready to hear the word and change there lives for the better. i know that we can always trust on the Holy Ghost. and what a blessing we have that becase of the convenants that we made at baptism, we, if we are worthy, have the right to have the Holy Ghost with us at all times and in all places. what a blessing that is. i love explaining the holy Ghost as like a true friend. so great because really He is like a real true friend to us and as we read in the scripstures, he will help us in ALL things that we do.

hope you all have another beautiful week. think about the sacrament prayer and remember the covenants which we have made, and remember that we are promised to always have to Holy Ghost to be with us in everything that we do.

Highlights from December & January emails...

December 17, 2012

hello once again!
so a cool little addition to the story with dino. they returned from the temple and everything and he was just lighted up because of how awesome it was. it was so fun to see him so happy and stoked about how awesome the temple is. so like i said, he baptised his dad who passed away. he said as soon as he went into the bathroom to change out of the baptismal clothes, he just broke down and started crying a bunch because he had just the biggest feeling of that his dad was super happy and close to him. so for sure i think that was a manifestation that his dad excepted the baptism. truly a wonderful ordinance, doing temple work for our ancestors. its our big resposabilitly to do this too, just imagine the joy of the people who have passed that are waiting for this ordenance, like dino's dad, to be performed for them so they can injoy the blessings of the gospel.

opah minha amaroso familia

so todays email i think will be nothing special because were talking tomorrow whattuupp! cant wait! funny youre giving the missionaries a place to skype, how nice of you guys haha im sure they love you. its weird to think that theyre in my house doing exactly what im doing in other peoples houses.

so stoked about my packages. i got one from you and one from kelli. a christmas one that i havent opened yet from you. and then kellis was like a big envelope thing with the theme of me being a 'greenie' shes always the best when it comes to stuff like that. but i will get the rest on the 4th of january. you guys are the best!

so our conference wasnt in joao pessoa but was in Natal, (capital of the state im in, rio grande do norte)

i did get to play b-ball and volleyball and that was a blast. me and the AP, whos way athletic, were destroying everyone it was a good time. haha theres a girl we were playing with whos like 6' 7! shes was so good she played professionaly in austrailia before serving haha shes way rad we had a blast. i wanted to take a picture with her but i forgot my camera.
dad i have to say im dissapointed to answer your profound question of which way the toilet water here spins.. haha all the toilets ive used kinda just dribble straight down so i have to answer with a "plausable" in the words of myth busters. but on some good news,  i thought something that happened was "implausable" (haha i think thats a word right?) this week. it freakin rained here!! haha first time in 3 years... during the night i woke up to water dripping on my face and i was like what in the world is this coming from?! sure enough, it was raining! haha so funny. it didnt rain a butt load but enough to blow my mind. most of the people here were so bummed they missed it because they were sleeping and didnt wake up. ahh love mossoró! ps im in the outskirts of abolição, dad said something about google earth. i figured you could look it up and prob see some pictures of what its like here.
had another baptism this week with a man, was great like always. remind me of a story about one of our investigators tomorrow that i have right now that has been a cool story thats still rolling out. but ps so awesome matt leaves so soon, and grayson and logan are the best be sure to give them big hugs from me.

i gave a talk this week in church. was so fun because the bishop came and gave our talks to us the night before right as we were going to bed. haha hows that for some good preparation?! and my topic was on the spirito de 'Natal' (spirit of christmas) so i was like o great where do i go with this one. was too tired to prepare anything, and church starts at 8 in the morning and we have to walk a tun to get our investigators always. so i just threw some bullet points down of the direction i wanted, 2 scriptures and hit the sack. was so sweet because the talk went soo good. it was so fun because i can say allmmmostt anything i want to. so i gave a ten minute talk without preparing in portuguese. super fun to see how much it has come along. i even cracked a joke. i talked alot about the two things i think of when i think about chirstmas.. Jesus and our families. and how the relationship with my family is the thing that makes me the most happy but how it all comes through the teachings of Jesus Christ and the principles of his gospel and how sharing our awesome mesage that we as members have is the best present we could ever possibly give to our friends.  (transitioned a little to how missionaries are here to help and make it easy on the members to share our present) so i was just saying how us missionaries like a lot of things, and if you want to make us happy, all you have to do is give us food. we love our food. but if you want to make us more than happy, give us referals. and just talked about how theres nothing better than baptising a person who gets it. and went on about the missionary opportunity we have at this time of the year. anyways it was really fun and im thankful for our family and the gospel in our lives and how lucky we are. so i hope all of you can find atleast dear friend that you care about and give them an opportuinity to accept the best present they can ever recieve that will be here for eternity, unlike any other phisical present we can possibly give. love you all a bunch, im just a litttlle excited to talk to you all tomorrow..

Love Elder Taylor

It was the BEST to see his face!!! Best Christmas present ever!

December 31, 2012

i wish i coulda talked to him more specifically on the skype home. i wish i coulda had 50 minutes with everyone it went by so fast.
but seriously was the best day ever. i was beaming too with happiness. you guys are the absolute best sorry i cried 3 times im such a baby but ive always been a cryer. thanks for making my chirstmas the best. glad to hear everything was awesome, yet busy, around the house back home. and i would kill for a winter right now. the thought of snow just blows my mind. the other night it was like 80 degrees and everyone was complaining about how freezing it was. haha somethings wrong with this picture.

i got my package with my stocking. not elders gomes. haha i dodnt wanna share with him, im so selfish! but this week most likely ill get them. thanks so much for the chirstmas stuff and the backscratcher and tapatio specifically. ah just the best! so we get mail the first week of every month. maybe some skittles and some other american candies thatd be awesome!!

i have only 20 pages left in Jesus the Christ. ive literally read 1000 billion times more than ive ever read in my life. i love it. im so stoked

so this week has been pretty mellow unfortunately. a little fun fact thats pretty rad. about once a week ish theres a patroll around our city of this big car saying 'força tacta' just like the military making sure evberything is good. (usually near the favelas) but this week finally i got to see them outside there car. literally almost every inch of there body was covered by bulet proof junk, had huge AK´s and other guns, and a tun of other stuff that looked awesome. haha just one thing youll never see in orange county or a regular basis.

Gomes has been super sick and pretty much couldnt leave the house for 3 days. so we barely taught this week or did anything. he slept while i just read and studied everyday till i felt like my head would explode. so pretty much not a crazy week so i dont have a whole lot to say sorry! but yea hes been all bundled up saying how its all cold. haha you know youre super sick if you think its cold in mossoro right? ive been feeling great! other than my little shot of weekly diarrhea, no but seriously, i have a strong testimony that if you work super hard and do all the things you should, Heavenly Father will bless you in all aspects, including health.

but i did have an awesome experience teaching one of our investigators. so he was a little on the more stuburn side, knew the bible pretty well and just had all these thoughts that were different about Jesus from his church. most of these things i wouldnt have known how to answer, give proof or anything like that but after reading Jesus the Christ it was the best. seriously it was soo fun to teach him and just pound every question/doubt that he had that was untrue. for every question i had so much knowledge, examples and scriptural examples all because of the amazing book. ah seriously i cant wait to learn more and more.

we also went a couple days without any electricity. haha and yes these days were included when gomes couldnt leave the house. so it was great. no lights, fans, fridge, or anything! but we have it back again so it makes me apreciate good old Tom.. (thomas edison)

yesterday we had a meal with a member who lives in a favella. shes the greatest but seriously i was just laughing inside of whats changed with me. so i was just casually munching away like always. and all the sudden took a little look around. the table is all dirty, the dishes just are kinda iffy, flies are all over the food and just all this stuff. the great thing is that thats pretty much normal with every meal. it doesnt even phase us. i was just thinking how its not the same as eating around our dinner table at home. with every meal its a gaurentee to have a tun of flies all over the place, but al this stuff is just totally normal now. so great haha

love you all so much. so stoked i got to talk to you all this week. that was the best! time here is flying by its crazy. you all are the best. hope everything is perfect at home.

January 7, 2013

opah!
morgan happy almost birthday youre the man!

so ill start off that i got a package from kelli which was great. and the gregsons/koelikors. it was so fun to get a package from them so please give them a big hug for me theyre the best. and dont forget to give a hug to grayson and logan for me

so the new year was pretty anticlamatic. the people just dont care about holidays, only want to celibrate by doing the thing they do every day.. haha nothing. but we did get go to a recent converts house, hes 24, and we played soccer which was so fun, then he cooked a chorrascoria for us. just meat on meat on meat it was the best. so was fun to finally have a little fun out of the normal routine. so just a little fun fact for you all to enjoy the 'cold' there. theres a lot of huge frogs here. ocasionaly they get run over by a car or who knows maybe just a horse or goat. but nevertheless they literally cook on the ground here. one of the times ill have to take a picture of it its pretty funny. they are literally charcoled by the heat here! haha thats not normal. and another thing i dont get. its rained like once in 3 years, yet everything is green as could possibly be. the trees all have just the darkest green and the grass and plants and everything are just ridiculously green that you would think that everything has sprinklers or something. i dont get it. the trees all have fruit and haha it blows my mind. they've all gotta be fake trees.

this week i was teaching an gabriel, (i talked about him a little with my skype call) who we met like the 2nd day i was here. progressing wise hes been slow, had a tun of doubts, believes in joseph smith and just doesnt wanna get baptised because he loves his church and doesnt feel or grasp the idea of the need for a restoration of the gospel and what sets our church aside from all the others. hes been looking for just i think an angel to come down and tell him the church is true, but we know that usually thats not the case.and he doesnt ever like to talk about his baptism he hates when we try to set a date or push him to baptism. we were teaching him and it was just the same old same old frustrating lesson. now as missionaries, and specifically representatives of Jesus Christ, we have an awesome opportunity to promise blessings and act in the name of Christ. so all the sudden i just got a prompting to promise him that if he will take the leap of faith and get baptised, he will recieve his answer without any doubt. so i disrupted whatever we were talking about and just bore testimony with all i could and promised him this. then the spirit prompted me to be super firm with him, so basically i just said a bunch of stuff straight forward about his situation and ended up by saying and you will be baptised on the 13th. it was a little silence of ,what the heck is he gonna say now, the moment of reaction. and then he said, ill be back in a minute, got up out of the chair and walked inside his house. Gomes looked at me kinda like haha where did that come from that was awesome. then i just kinda shrugged my shoulders and said i just opened my mouth. after about 10 minutes of just sitting there, gabriel returns and sits down. still waiting for any type of reaction and then he goes. yes, i wanna be baptised on the 13th. it was the biggest shock ever haha but seriously just the best feeling ever. so thats been one of the coolest things thats hapened to me yet here. i was so happy to be a tool in the hands of the holy Ghost.

My testimony of studying the scriptures and the power of them has just increased so much its crazy and so cool, i never thought it would happen to me to be honest. always loved the scriptures but never had a huge desire to read and actually study, ponder about the things i read. but i was just reading in 1nefi 22 and verse 17, as well as other parts in this chapter, just says how the righteous truly just dont have anything to fear about. seriously nothing. i was just thinking about the power of that statement and the truthfulness then i thought of a hymn that i love. i dont have a hymn book in english so i couldnt read the hymn and the words, but the hymn "let us all press on" ran through my head which probably most of the words in my head are wrong but i know how it just says, 'let us all press on, we have no need to fear,' then the rest of the hymn is just so powerful. i was just thinking about all the words and verses i could remember and realized truly what a blessing/great way to feel the spirit hymns are. in D&C 25:12 it just talks about how a hymn is literally a prayer unto our Saviour. what a truth that is. i had the opportunity yesterday to read and sing the hyms with a whole new light, truly singing or "praying" the words and it just brought tears to my eyes. so this week and from now on i just challenge you all to read, ponder, and sing the words of the hymns as a prayer unto our Lord and you will see the difference that it makes.

have a wonderful week my favorite people,
love Elder Taylor

January 14, 2013

yes gomes is leaving the 22nd of this month. last pday for him so crazy! but haha he is ready to go home thats for sure! ill miss him but it will be a good change. and im pretty sure i will stay here in mossoró one more transfer but things might be changing. i wouldnt mind getting transfered to joao pessoa right next to the beach, a chapel and stuff, but because i said that i probably will never see the beach haha. well see!

so just to show you what the people here are like, as far as them being super nice, friendly and just humble people not into the worldly things that much. we were talking to a mom and her son, talked about the church, a little about food and what not. invited her to church and she said "not this sunday, but i will go when it snows here" haha was pretty funny, so in other word she said she doesnt want anything to do with the church. she invited us to eat dinner there later that night so gladly we accepted, thinking hey we can possibly share a little more at dinner and change her mind. she and her son wound up cooking a nice big dinner for us, so once it was ready we sat down to eat and haha they both left. they were just like ya eat as much as you want, you can take the left over food home if you want. were gonna go to our neighbors house. so they just left, invited us to eat dinner (what we thought was with them) but they just cooked a meal for the missionaries of the church that they want nothing to do with. so like normal, we blessed the food and me and elder gomes just ate all by ourselves haha. that just shows a little bit of the hospitality here.

the whole mentality is so different here and everything is just different. they think chapstick is the coolest thing i let them try mine because theyve never seen it before. they´ve never seen ear plugs before. sticky notes. a little pack of gum. and they think my addidas sandals are the coolest thing ever. just crazy how different it is right?
haha and also another thing i descovered this week, 90% of the people here dont know how to swim... what!! that blew my mind when i found that out but seriously not anyone knows how to swim so if mossoró had a flood i think everyone would die.

for some reason almost everyone of our investigators was traveling this week and wasnt in there houses. it was like a ghost town here, kinda strange but this week will be better. and im excited to get a new comp, mix things up a little bit. yea so was such an awesome experience with Gabriel. turns out that ya he went and prayed during the little break that he got up and left, such a rad story. im just happy that i did my part, unfortunately sometimes we do all we can and the spirit touches the people but still they reject the gospel which is hands down the hardest thing. but all worth it at the time of any baptism. so gabriel talked abunch with his family and turns out that he decided not to get baptised this week. was such a bummer. were working still with him. hes got a lot of doubts again but were just trying do direct him back on the time when he decided to get baptised and how the spirit testified to him. so well see how that goes. such a bummer! but theres other elect, the field is white!

i love the joseph smith story and the part about how he says that satan has tried extra hard on him since he was of a young age. satan is real and will always be an annoyer to the kingdom and gospel, but so awesome to know that really he has no power compared to us if we just do the things that were supposed to. haha i think in jacob 6 theres a great scripture that i read the other week thats super short and just basically says, "O be wise!" what else do we need to do? i loved in a email from chelsea a little while ago about a video and her lesson of staying within the lines. so true, all we have to do is stay within the lines by being '"wise". so simple

so a thing that im most jealous about gomes leaving is that he gets to go to the temple next week. i want to go so bad, im missing the temple right now. ive realized so much more seriously how truly holy and special it is to us. really the house of the Lord. remember the talk in conference (im drawing a blank on who is was sorry) that talked about how the little girl in the temple open house, asked, "mommy, wheres Jesus?" the mom replied and said that He´s not physically here but spiritually. then the little girl replied quickly and said, "oh He´s just helping somebody else in another place". what awesome Faith. i love how when i think of Jesus its always just, calm and deals with things in a calm matter. i absolutely LOVE that when the temple was polluted with all the worldly things, that he actually took a whip and cleared out the temple to restore the holyness there. not once, but two times. ah so great.
anyways sorry for my boring email! hope all is well, love you guys

ELder Taylor

January 23, 2013

howdy!

thanks so much for your email it was awesome! even though im not focused on the sports stuff and what not out here it sure is great to hear about some of the stuff going on at home. but definetely not good to hear about the freaking lakers! what the heck is up with that. theyll turn it on.. weve got kobe! haha so sad. and the superbowl will be rad. its all about the team with the most mormons on it right? haha im soo happy i have a Mãe that loves sports. its the coolest thing ever. what other mom would give a sports update without her son asking?!

soo this week was good! and i do have some changes ill talk about that in a minute. i was in Joao Pessoa this week for a little, got to be at a meeting with elder christensen of the presidency of the 70. elder Mazagarddi too of the 70. so fun to hear there words and got me way excited to work hard. so fun to just feel the spirit that they bring through there words and actions. was an awesome meeting and i wish i could tell you all about it. (João Pessoa is beautiful, haha almst as beautiful as mossoro) was super sad to say bye to elder gomes. hes been great and i learned a bunch from him, but he was ready to go home and im excited to have work hard with my new companion Elder Cezar. hes from Port Alegre (south brazil). theyve got a reputation down there theyre like the Texas of brazil. haha but hes suuupper rad im so stoked that were companions i think we will have a lot of success together. hes great so far all weve done is laugh and we will get along super good. im stoked! ill try to send some pictures next week. He trained my super good friend srom the CTM Elder Georgiana, kinda funny. but it will be a good time and im way happy to have a rad companion. very thankful!
so also some news. im no longer in Abolição, Mossoró! we got called to open an area in Bom Jardim, Mossoró. its another area (Bairro) gosh i forgot the word for Bairro. like area or other town. gosh i cant think of it. but anyways were super stoked! it will be a lot of work but we can defienetly handle it! so fun to recieve the transfer call and know that were opening an area that got closed a long time ago. it has a chapel too! which im so stoked to have in my area, im praying that it has air conditioning and more importantly a ping pong table. haha. so we havent really explored the area yet because weve been getting all the transfers and what not settled down. the house there is one of the nicest of the missions, just got reformed and stuff so it will be a good time. the other house was great and all but haha i am so happy for a nicer house, with toilets that work, showers that have actually a stream of water coming out. so ill tell you a little more about the area next week when i find out. i think its a little more developed than Abolição (which isnt hard at all).

i officially have a nice tan line.  the tie tanline is small but i can see it. too funny right?

so this week i saw something that i never thought id see. we were teaching (talking) to a person who we met, he was of some crazy church from africa i cant remember the name. we asked for some water and he let us in his house. i looked over and sure enough what did i see? haha a freaking rock/plate thing with a burnt chicken (i think chicken) on it that he offered as a sacrafice earlier that day! it smelt awful and was just the last thing id ever think to see was a burning something being offered as a sacrafice. as you can imagine, i didnt drink want any more water..

so my time is up, went super fast today but this week really strengthened my testimony and im so stoked on my situation right now. love you all a ton, Até logo

January 28, 2013

Gosh first of all i just cant believe about luke!! thats unreal that hes 16 already. hes the stud of the high school it sounds like, like all the rest of the taylors were. hes the man and i miss him a ton. hes so great, give him a huge hug for me. and the birthday dinner i cant trell you how awesome that sounds right now. i would die for some egg rolls, sweet and sour sauce, and vanila cake seriously! haha someday..

so i will start off by talking just a little about the area! im soo stoked to be serving here its gonna be a good time. the field truly is white here in Bom Jardim and ready to here the gospel. i absolutely loved my area in abolição but i am gonna love this area even more. im so lucky to be serving here. so first off, elder cezar. haha he is the man. hes 20 and from south brazil, its a whole nother world down there from here. hes super funny. we have had a blast working together, always laughing andhaving a good time, its even more fun to teach with him because we mesh super good so in next next couple weeks we will be pounding the lessons out together. hes always singing songs in english, even though he doesnt understand english at all, but he sings without like an accent or anything its crazy, so you better believe we've had a couple singing sessions together. and i dont have to say that we sound awesome together.  ah im so stoked to be working with him, hes got 1 year and 7 months on the mission but unlike elder gomes, hes still got the missionary fire and is working hard. already in just 4 days of teaching together we taught over 20 lessons with members, which is usually difficult, and have 9 people committed to babtism. i feel so blessed to be serving here, like i said the field is white and ready to harvest.

So stoked to have a real church building with air conditioning!

Some of my buddies!

the actual area itself is a whole lot different than abolição. its a lot more developed (i think cause its closer to the city) and has a lot more people than there. the people are still very accepting and love to talk to americans and they think its the coolest thing to talk to americans, and that im here serving a mission and learning their language. the area where i live is good. the chapel is about 30 minutes walking from our house and since most people dont have cars, we have to just work closer to the chapel. its still pretty poor over there but i love it. pretty funny, the people here only have running water for two hours in the morning, shuts off for the rest of the day then at night they have 2 more hours of running water. i havent seen a favela with houses made out of sticks and mud which is a little change for the better but theres definetely still parts way poor. but ya im stoked to be working here. the chapel is so great. its practically brand new and has freaking AC baby! it was #1 to be in sacrament with AC haha i have mnissed that. it also helps to bring the investigators there rather than an old small little building like the meeting house in aboliçao. not that material things matter, but i think you can guess why it helps. its just makes it that much easier to feel the spirit and feel good inside there. i will send pictures next week of all my stuff and try to take some pictures around the area.

so dont worry by the way i wouldnt ever drink unfiltered water here haha im alteast smart enough to realize that is a bad idea. i would drink purified water, im staying way healthy and life is good. speaking of unfiltered water for drinking.. there was a member with probably 5 years at church, and his parents wouldnt let him get a drink of water at the drinking fountain. (yues we have a drinking fountain, life is good) so the little kid was mad at his parents, so what did he decide to do.. hahah we found him drinking out of the toilet in the bathroom!!!! hahaha can you please just picture that! ahh it was the funniest thing ever. i will keep you updated on that kid if hes sick, if not maybe ill start drinking the toilet bowl water too...

so i had an awesome experiece this week. take a wild guess who got to play ping pong this week.. this elder! we were tracting looking at our new area and what not and we passed this little house with a ping pong table and 2 people playing.. i wanted to play so bad with them, i told elder cezar that i love pinjg pong. then i was like ok hang on, i turned around and went to the little house with the ping pong table. clapped at the gate and they stopped playing and i just told them how i was from the US explained about a mission, a little about the church, and that ive been dying to play ping pong here. asked if i could play one game with them and they said ya sure. i asked who was better and said i wanted to play him. then made a bet with him, if he won the game, i would wash his car for him, but if i won, he would need to come to church with us sunday. he agreed (thinking he was gonna obviously win) and we played. haha big suprise, i absolutely destroyed him from the first serve. and sure enough he came to church this week haha that was so fun to me. we have to learn how to have fun here on the mission at the same time, and get creative to find the Lords elect.

i love you all so much! i feel so blessed to be serving here. untill next week!

Love Elder Taylor,

February 4, 2013

hello from this part of the world.

gosh gotta start out just by saying holy cow luke has his licence?!? i dont belive that. i just cant picture him driving by himself to in n out and getting food and what not. then to school for practice. gosh how awesome hes getting old. and mom what will you do now? use that time to get yoked in the gym. haha do it for me because i am loosing weight here walking around in the fire here!

this week was so good! im so stoked in my situation right now. we are killing it in the work and its amazing how much more fun it is and how good you feel when you work hard. we had 9 investigators at church yesterday, and destroyed the missions "standards of excelence" (like lessons taught and stuff) and we are so stoked to see the results that will come from this. Elder Cezar is great haha we have such a good time together and we are doing work here in bom jardim.

the new house is nice. i got creative and mounted tthe fan on the wall. i know in a genius.

Elder Taylor's study area

The beds here just arent the biggest as you can tell haha .

im basically a pro chef now too.

you could see on my pants what a hard days work looks like (yes that is just marks of sweat that i have on my pants every day after we work haha so gross right?)last pday we played volley ball it was a blast, this pday morning we played soccer with some of the membders here. so awesome
just a couple little random things real quick...
so turns out its normal in brazil for people to not know how to swim at all. everyone has a story about almost drownding, it blows my mind that they dont know how haha but hey thanks to you guys i was practically borne in the water. mom if people saw you swimming here theyd think youre michael phelps. that shows how much they just cant swim.

Still animals just dominating the streets here everywhere, haha but to add a new animal to the list there is like 7 pigs that run around here just in a group loving life. and the fuinniest thing ever is there is like a gang of dogs here. 14 dogs that always stick together and its like a gang of dogs that all have awkwardly short legs everytime i see them i die laughing, ill try to get a picture of it. we had a rat in our house that was so big, it was hilarious though getting it out of our house and all i could think about was my little rat Ched.. i miss that little guy. this week i ate liver, i dont know if that counts as anything crazy but it was good.

here nobody knows what lacrosse is its a bummer! and its so hard to explain it to people so the best way i find to explain it to people is comparing it to sponge bob when hes running around with his little "lacrosse stick" catching jelly fish. haha its similar right?

but yea i love this area, i think we will see some good things happen here. we know the area now and have set investigators and everything, trhe people here in brazil are so great too. the opther day we wanted to find 4 men to teach. we just got rejected and rejected for the whole day and we only had 2 new men after talking with everyone. and had some people not so nice to us (because usually everyone is so nice here just like will say no in a nice manner). so it was a dificult time, we were kinda down a little bit, it was a long day in the sun, dead tired and everything. it was about 8;30 (our house is about a half an hour walking distance from our area where we work) and our time was ready to make our treck back home. we decided to just try one more, to really give it our all and just rely on the Lord to help us. and sure enough, when we clapped outside this house, there were three men there (all just friends) and all super receptive and seem to be some of the elect ready to hear our message. we will be teaching them this week and we have high hoped for them. when we give it our all, heeavenly Father will help us in all that we do.

Have an awesome week!
love you all!
